Swanland in Bloom is a sub-committee
of the SVA. For many years Swanland entered the
Yorkshire in Bloom competition.
In 2004 as a result of its past successes Swanland
entered the Britain
in Bloom competition and was awarded a silver medal. The 2004
entry amounted to a huge effort for the gardening team.
The Parish Council gives an annual grant. Swanland
Nurseries provide plants and fill Hayracks at a generous discount.
SVA events help to raise funds and other finance comes from SVA
members’ subscriptions.
Although Swanland retains a village atmosphere,
due to its population size it has to be entered in the Small Country
Town category and has also won several good placings and certificates
of merit - see Swanland's Record 1993-2004
Swanland was not eligible to enter Britain in
Bloom in 2005 because each place has to re-qualify in its regional
competitions. It was also been decided not to enter Yorkshire in
Bloom that year. After organising the entry to the Britain in Bloom
Competition we felt we needed a rest!
We hope keep make the village as attractive
in the future with the centre of effort around the pond.
