Swanland Pond is a much-admired
focal point in the village.
Following
the award of a silver medal in the 2003 Britain
in Bloom competition, resident Mal Cracknell
pioneered a Swanland in Bloom group, which
led to many improvements around the pond area
and an annual display of plants and flowers
all through the summer months.
The
late Carole Ledgarde founded the Wildlife
group, which planted aquatic plants around
the pond Perimeter.
Currently
the pond area is maintained by
several groups of volunteers.

The
Gardening Group plant
and cultivate the area around the pond.
It is a very informal group who meet up at
the pond every Monday morning.
If they have any meetings they are often just
discussed while they are at the pond!
The
only minutes are the 120+ minutes spent every
week at the pond
A
rota of volunteers to keep the plants watered
is published on this website by the gardening
group.
A
rota of litter picking volunteers keep the
area clean and tidy is published on
this website by Christine Walker of the SVA.
The
pond itself (water quality, wildlife and aquatic
plants) is maintained by the Pond
Partnership
run by Alyson
